Icefields Parkway & Jasper National Park Canada

Image
---Current location Soldotna Alaska--- 6/16 (cont'd)  Icefields Parkway is 181 miles of road that traverse the Canadian Rockies between Banff and  Jasper National Parks. It is one of the most beautiful stretches of road we have ever seen. You pass numerous and massive Glaciers, Glacial Lakes and Waterfalls and see some incredible wildlife. The trip takes about four hours but it is well worth it. There are plenty of places to pop out and hike, camp and just take in the amazing view. We stopped for a meal at the Icefields Center. By the time we got in (6:30pm) the low key cafe we hoped to eat at was closed. They were serving dinner in their fancy restaurant and we were concerned about our dress. It after being assured by the maitre d that looked alright we stayed for their buffet.  Finn loved that you could just choose a little of anything. He is still talking about that meal. After the meal we went and hiked up the ....Glacier to take in the enormity of this place. Sad ...

Waterton & Banff National Park Canada

Image
---Current location Saldotna Alaska--- 6/13 Woke up at fish creek campground to a rainy day.  We made our way to St. Mary's campground again to look for a missing credit card we believe fell out by the ranger kiosk. No luck finding the card so we ate a quick meal in the RV and then started to make our way to Waterton Canada.  Arrived in Waterton early afternoon but the rain was still pouring. So we ended up having a low key evening of walking around the little town, eating pizza (met a fabulous waitress who gave us great hike suggestions) and then watched a little of Wallace and Gromit. 6/14 Woke up to clear skies and headed out to drive the park and do a few hikes with Franklin unlike in the states where dogs are not allowed on the trails in National Parks. We hiked Blakenstain Falls, Red Canyon and Lake Crandall. Had two bear sightings from the RV one Grizzly and one Black bear. All were pooped after the hikes so we went and ate dinner at the historic Prince of Whal...

Missoula & Flatland Lakes

Image
---Current location road to Denali Alaska--- 6/8 We left West Glacier around 2pm and started to make our way down to Missoula. We are heading there to pick up a swing away hitch from the UPS store there. We slept  at a Walmart  in a beautiful area in the flatland lakes.  Then headed out the next am to make our way into Missoula.  Had a great breakfast sandwich from the Biscuit in Arlee. We then made our way to visit the new location of the  SpectrUm museum. Kicked off with a free ice cream cone and then headed into the science museum. Finn's favorite exhibit was a sand pit that had a topographic map projected onto it. Which you could change the landscape by moving your hand through the sand.  After we went to UPS store picked up our hitch (which didn't work 😬) and then headed to a Monster Truck show! Let's just say Finn absolutely loved the show. He was screaming and giggling with delight. His favorite were the motorcycle stunts. Ailish...

Glacier National Park

Current location Fairbanks Alaska 6/4-6/8 & 6/13 Hard to describe the beauty of Glacier. We will just say we came, we hiked, we saw wildlife and we were inspired. We will let the pictures do the rest!

Montana

Current location Fairbanks Alaska! 6/1 We arrived in Montana last night and crashed at a rest site. Now it's off to Fort Peck State campground. It's a scorcher of a day and by the time we arrived at the campground we were all a bit over heated and on edge (at least Zoë was). We decided to check out one of the three swimming areas they had to cool off. After taking a suggestion from the interpretive center on where to swim we ended up at a little beach. There were some other folks there just a handful and a dog named Katonah. We spent the afternoon there chatting with our new friends, swimming and eating dinner. Even Franklin had a blast. He played with Katonah and went in the water. For those of you who know Franklin he normally avoids it like the plague. This was revolutionary 😃 .  We then said goodbye to all and headed back to the campground. Finn and Dan did a little fishing off the dock by our site and they were lucky enough to see a beaver swim by and Finn c...

Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Current location Dawson Creek BC- mike marker 0 for Alaskan highway!!! 5/29-Theodore Roosevelt National Park. North unit. We started the morning driving around the little town of Alexander ND. They had a lovely tribute for Memorial Day. We payed our respects and then made our way to the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This is a less visited National Park but we are so glad we came. The landscape was beautiful. We started by doing the scenic drive they have in the park and then we popped off to do some hiking. We saw lots of Buffalo and Prairie Dogs. On our hike to Prairie Dog village there was a grazing Buffalo within 100 yards of us.  Around 4pm we decided to camp there for the night and we are so glad we did. Nice campground. We scooted around and ate dinner and met Ranger Jeff who gave us numerous suggestions of where to visit on the road. He also gave Finn a junior ranger book to complete in order to become a junior ranger. We had just bu...
