The road to Vancouver & Seattle

8/11-8/15
Disembarked at Prince Rupert on 8/11 and started to make our way south through British Columbia. We knew we needed to make it south for the 21st for the eclipse so we are hauled butt to get to Vancouver and then Seattle. Ended up staying the night in the field of a country music festival that was being held in a town called Terrace. The music wasn't our cup of tea but it was free which gave us time to check out what was happening in town. We stopped at the local senior center for their pancake breakfast the kids were a huge hit and then went to one of the best farmers market we had visited to date. Then it was off to Prince George. In PG we ate some really spicy Indian food (it was nice to have ethnic options again), played in a park and met some very nice Canadians at the dog park. We made our way to Quesnal for the night. What we haven't mentioned so far is that BC is having some horrible Forrest fires and the skies are literally filled with smoke. As a fellow Canadian described it "its like driving through Armageddon". Woke up the next day to smoky skies and made our way to 100 Mile House for lunch (home to the largest set of XC skis) and then made our way to Hope for the night. 8/15 ended up in a great park in Abbotsford BC for lunch. Finn scooted and we all played on the playground to release some pent up energy. We finally got to Vancouver in the early evening. After driving around to get the lay of the land we ate dinner in their Little Italy district (not stellar...we miss our Brooklyn Italian) and then made our way to where we were sleeping for the night. 8/16- a great day in Vancouver! We kicked it off by visiting Granville Island and we are so glad that we did. A beautiful place to walk or scoot around and had some of the best food and produce we have had on their trip yet. It was a extremely hot day so we decided to take a mid-day break at their science museum (science world) which was huge. Both kids had a great time exploring the Science Museum( only saw 1/3 of it so a reason to come back to Vancouver) and after two hours we decided to head out to Stanley Park to round out our day. Stanley Park is like the Central Park of Vancouver. It’s massive and right in the thick of things. We BBQ’d, played and went swimming in their community pool. We had a wonderful time in Vancouver but since we were on a mission to hit Oregon for the 21st we left
for Seattle that evening. We made it back to the good ole USA and bedded down for the night at a rest stop outside of Seattle.
8/17 we got up and drove into downtown Seattle. We hit Pike Market where we explored the shops ate some biscuits and had an apple cider slushy. After spending some time there we decided to walk to Olympic Sculpture Park. It was another scorcher of a day so we burnt out pretty quickly and decided to find so good iced coffee. After having success in the coffee department we all got back in the rig and stared to make our way towards a National Forrest just outside of Mount Rainer. On the way to the Forrest we came across a wonderful farm stand where we stocked up on fruit. We tried our first huckleberries and a Dinosaur Melon! Then found a great spot to camp for the night.

8/18- woke up and headed into Mount Rainier. Did a beautiful drive along one of their scenic roads and then hit the Silver Forrest trail for a hike. Finn really enjoyed the hike especially the “hairy” flowers they had growing all around. We rounded out the day with Finn becoming a junior ranger and then we packed up and started to make our way to Oregon.
