5/29-Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
North unit. We started the morning driving around the little town of Alexander ND. They had a lovely tribute for Memorial Day. We payed our respects and then made our way to the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This is a less visited National Park but we are so glad we came. The landscape was beautiful. We started by doing the scenic drive they have in the park and then we popped off to do some hiking. We saw lots of Buffalo and Prairie Dogs. On our hike to Prairie Dog village there was a grazing Buffalo within 100 yards of us.

Around 4pm we decided to camp there for the night and we are so glad we did. Nice campground. We scooted around and ate dinner and met Ranger Jeff who gave us numerous suggestions of where to visit on the road. He also gave Finn a junior ranger book to complete in order to become a junior ranger. We had just bunkered down for the night (still light outside here at 9:30pm) only to be roused by some dogs barking. Looked outside our RV and their was a huge Buffalo in the campground. He wandered in to give himself a good scratch on one of the camp posts.

The next day we hit the South Unit of the Park. Again we started by doing the scenic drive and popped off from there to do some more hiking. The landscape was more dramatic in the Northern Unit but the South Unit had Teddy s cabin which was nice to see. On one of our hikes we came within a 50 yards of a huge sleeping Buffalo. Zoë thinks she heard it snoring it was definitely at our comfort threshold but very awe inspiring. That evening we free docked at a rest stop.

5/31 We did some shopping in Dickinson for provisions and then went back to the South Unit so that Finn could take his oath to become a Junior Ranger. We are proud to say that Finn is now a Junior Ranger of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park! Now it's off to Montana.
