Iowa part two

Image
We drove into Waterloo to eat a breakfast at Morgs which is legendary around there (huge portions little mom and pop place) and then Dan and Finn hit the John Deere Museum.  At the museum Dan had to call me and let me know that a Tornado watch had been issued and he was warned that if the staff got an update with a touch down we would all have to come inside to a safe room.  Luckily that did not happen and we decided to risk staying in Iowa for another night since the weather was bad in all directions. We ended up at George Wyth Staye Campground. The weather rolled in and luckily it was just half an hour of bad wind and rain lightning and thunder. Once it passed we took a walk around the campground and saw that several trees came down. This was our closest experience with a tornado. 5/18 lazy morning at campground  Then hit Imaginarium in Waterloo. Then off to Minnesota. Had dinner at millennium park in west concord MN.Then free docked at a ...

---current location Glacier National Park--- 5/16 Off to Iowa to Harvest Host again at Hansens Dairy Farm in Hudson IA. I will just start by saying it was gorgeous weather wise. We arrived at 3pm in order to take the 3:30 tour. Jeanne one of the owners met us warmly when we arrived and then we hopped on the the tractor trolley driven by Jay her husband along with a few others to tour the barn and creamy. We had an in depth tour about what a dairy farmers daily life is like. We milked some cows, fed the new calfs which Finn loved and got to meet their Kangaroos. Yes I did say Kangaroos.  Then we headed back to the tasting room and made butter, nibbled on cheese curds and had our scoops of ice cream. After the tasting we headed out to our rig to hang out for the night which was now feeling hot, humid and super windy. Before we got in we noticed Jeanne and two of her granddaughters swimming in the pond. Jeanne invited us to swim and even asked he granddaughters to grab Fi...

5/12- Dropped off RV at Mercedes to be fixed again. While we stayed with the RV Dan and Finn rode into downtown Madison for a tour of the area. They ate at a fancy French place for breakfast. Van was fixed quickly luckily it was just a couple of cut wires to our sensors. Then the whole family went  to a horse show at the convention center. After our Equine fix we hit our campground at Lake Kegonsa and just hung out for the night. The next day we hit a street fair in downtown Madison (got some fabulous spicey cheese bread) and met up with a graduate school friend of Dan's and her family. We enjoyed meeting Jen, Bill, Toby and his parents. It was a beautiful sunny day so we played baseball, rocket launch and fetch with their awesome dog Rocket in their yard. All of us had a blast and it was such a great way to spend an afternoon. Then it was back off to the campground for the night. 5/14- Spent the morning in the campground and then off to Milwaukee for a Brewers game (vs....

Chicago

5/9 Arrived in Chicago at 3pm. You are allowed to park in downtown Chicago at the McCormick Place truck Marshaling parking lot. This is not a stellar location but it does give you easy access to the city. That evening we walked to Millennium Park. Got to see Soldiers Field and some of the Museums. We ate Chicago dogs from Devil Dawgs a local place for dinner in Grant Park. The hot dogs were not as good as we had heard but the setting was beautiful. By the time we walked back to our rig in was 10pm. The McCormick parking lot is parking for Soldiers Field would be a great place to come back to to tailgate. Late night for kids but good exercise for Mom, Dad and Franklin. 5/10- We set out for our touristy Chicago day. Morning was nice but wet weather made its way to us in the pm. Gotta say we are pretty sick of ☔️ . It's been an unusually wet and cold spring for many of the states we have visited so far. Any way we started with and ride on the L train to Lincoln Park for d...

5/7 We took a down morning at the campground since Finn was still battling the tail end of croup. Since we were only an hour from Chicago we decide to catch an evening game at Wrigley's Field. We bundled up and set out for our MLB adventure. The night could not have gone better. The Cubs offer free parking with a shuttle bus provided at a far off lot which we took advantage of. Finn like riding the school bus shuttle and asked lots of questions about why there were no seatbelts on the bus. We arrived at Wrigley Field just before the first pitch. It was a cold night so we were layered up but our seats were great. Fun game at an iconic stadium (a Dan's bucket list trip). Unfortunate we only made it through half of the game (7 innings) since the game took 18 innings!  After the game we headed back to the campground. Next day we stayed local did some laundry and antiquing in Chesterton IN. We had the best breakfast at the Northside Diner. I mean this breakfast ...

Michigan

5/5- Drove into downtown Ann Arbor MI. It is another rainy day 😢 which is not much fun but luckily Ann Arbor has a great hands on museum for kids. We spent a couple of hours there and then hit a local place called Fritabatidos (Cuban street burgers) for a late lunch. Next off to Mooville a dairy farm we found through Harvest Host. After a brief detour (Zoë forgot our backpack at our lunch destination) we arrived at Mooville at 6pm. We were greeted warmly by our host Troy and given a tour of the creamery. We then did a self guided tour of the barn; ate a picnic dinner and of course got some Mooville ice cream for dessert. The ice cream was amazing. Finn got cotton candy flavor and it tasted just like the real thing. After another hard night with Finn being sick we woke up to cows playing right outside our window. This made us all smile and certainly was cool to watch cows frolicking . After taking a little time in the morning to let Finn and Ailish play in ...

5/1 crossing the boarder (F and A's first trip outside the USA. Crossed @ 9:22 am).  🇨🇦  We are on our way to drop off our RV to Roadtrek in Kitchener ON to finally be fixed (hopefully)!   Stayed in Kitchener Ontario for three nights. We hung out at the hotel, swam, watched cable and ate a really good steak meal. We had the obligatory Tim Hortons and FaceTimed with friends and family.  We also disproved the theory that all Canadians are super nice (met some really grumpy ones in Kitchener). Our RV was at the Roadtrek Manufacturer being fixed during this time. They did right by us they fixed our major problems and even fixed the damage Dan did to the body of the van the first day we got it 😄. Roadtrek even covered our hotel stay we cannot say enough good things about them right now. The afternoon on 5/4 we hit the road again. Plan is back  to the States until we cross to Alaska .  Made it to Michigan the same evening where we slept...
