Alaska Highway baby!

Image
---current location Seward Alaska--- 6/19 -6/24 We now embark to one of our bucket list places ALASKA baby! Well not yet but the journey starts in Dawson Creek  Canada. This is mile 0 of the Alaskan Highway. We spent the day walking the town and looking at the sights. For being such a well known place they did not have to much to do so we ended up at their community pool which was awesome. We think that since they have so many months of cold they need to have an awesome community center. This was like a water park but for dirt cheap. We all had a blast swimming and playing with the bubbles. Next day we hit the road to start this long stretch of road to get to Alaska. Along the four day journey we saw beautiful scenery, ate some good pie and cinnamon buns (they love them up in these parts). Really got the sense of what it means to be rural. Long stretches between each town and what we mean by town is one store that caters to all. Didn't have to pay a night for lodging. Y...

Icefields Parkway & Jasper National Park Canada

Image
---Current location Soldotna Alaska--- 6/16 (cont'd)  Icefields Parkway is 181 miles of road that traverse the Canadian Rockies between Banff and  Jasper National Parks. It is one of the most beautiful stretches of road we have ever seen. You pass numerous and massive Glaciers, Glacial Lakes and Waterfalls and see some incredible wildlife. The trip takes about four hours but it is well worth it. There are plenty of places to pop out and hike, camp and just take in the amazing view. We stopped for a meal at the Icefields Center. By the time we got in (6:30pm) the low key cafe we hoped to eat at was closed. They were serving dinner in their fancy restaurant and we were concerned about our dress. It after being assured by the maitre d that looked alright we stayed for their buffet.  Finn loved that you could just choose a little of anything. He is still talking about that meal. After the meal we went and hiked up the ....Glacier to take in the enormity of this place. Sad ...

Waterton & Banff National Park Canada

Image
---Current location Saldotna Alaska--- 6/13 Woke up at fish creek campground to a rainy day.  We made our way to St. Mary's campground again to look for a missing credit card we believe fell out by the ranger kiosk. No luck finding the card so we ate a quick meal in the RV and then started to make our way to Waterton Canada.  Arrived in Waterton early afternoon but the rain was still pouring. So we ended up having a low key evening of walking around the little town, eating pizza (met a fabulous waitress who gave us great hike suggestions) and then watched a little of Wallace and Gromit. 6/14 Woke up to clear skies and headed out to drive the park and do a few hikes with Franklin unlike in the states where dogs are not allowed on the trails in National Parks. We hiked Blakenstain Falls, Red Canyon and Lake Crandall. Had two bear sightings from the RV one Grizzly and one Black bear. All were pooped after the hikes so we went and ate dinner at the historic Prince of Whal...

Missoula & Flatland Lakes

Image
---Current location road to Denali Alaska--- 6/8 We left West Glacier around 2pm and started to make our way down to Missoula. We are heading there to pick up a swing away hitch from the UPS store there. We slept  at a Walmart  in a beautiful area in the flatland lakes.  Then headed out the next am to make our way into Missoula.  Had a great breakfast sandwich from the Biscuit in Arlee. We then made our way to visit the new location of the  SpectrUm museum. Kicked off with a free ice cream cone and then headed into the science museum. Finn's favorite exhibit was a sand pit that had a topographic map projected onto it. Which you could change the landscape by moving your hand through the sand.  After we went to UPS store picked up our hitch (which didn't work 😬) and then headed to a Monster Truck show! Let's just say Finn absolutely loved the show. He was screaming and giggling with delight. His favorite were the motorcycle stunts. Ailish...
