Glen Highway to Wrangle St. Elias

---Current location Park City Utah---

8/1-8/3
Traveled along the Glen Highway to Glenallen Alaska. We did a stop at Lake Louise for lunch (road was horrible with huge ice heaves. Like riding a roller coaster) and we saw a family pick blue berries along the side of the road. We were going to stop at the Matanuska Glacier to walk on it but balked at the $60 price to do so. Then made our way via the Richardson Highway to Chitna.
8/3 drove into Wrangle St.Elias via McCarthy road. The road was awful with heaves, pot holes and washboard marks everywhere. Enjoyed some beautiful scenery along the road to Kennecott and McCarthy. Wrangle St. Elias is the largest National Park in the US. It's less visited than Denali which we really enjoyed. McCarthy and Kennecott were old Copper Mine towns. The town of Kennecott is a restored town (1910) and an Historic Landmark. Unfortunately we didn't have time to do the guided tour of the Cooper processing center but we were able to walk around the town. Which was really neat.

8/4- as we made our way out of the park we stopped for lunch at the Kuskulana bridge. While exploring we found what we thought were raspberries. Zoë being the nervous Nelly she is didn't want to eat them until we could confirm with a ranger but Dan and Finn said they tasted like raspberries 😄. At the ranger station Finn got his badge, raspberries were confirmed and we were directed to a secret place to pick some more (which we did). Raspberries were really good but very small so made for some tedious picking.  While driving to the secret place we saw a mom and calf Moose and on the way out we saw a bull moose. We rounded out the night by making our way to Valdez. We stopped for dinner at Worthington Glacier and we are so glad that we did. After dinner we hiked to the Glacier where we could actually touch it. We think we heard the cracking of the Glacier which was very loud, cool and creepy. (So glad we didn't stop at Matanuska Glacier because we got touch one for free thanks for the tip in Glenallen). After the hike we got kids into Pj's and drove the rest of the Richardson Highway (absolutely beautiful stretch of road) into Valdez.
