Kenai Peninsula

The Kenai Peninsula is a gorgeous place. One of the best things to do is fish on the Kenai and boy did we. Dan went out on a Charter for Halibut from Homer and caught a 40 lb Halibut and another 20 lb (only allowed 2 one big and one small per day) he caught more but kept those two. Ended up with enough fish to last us several months 😀. Besides the charter both Dan and Finn fished in lagoons (Homer), Rivers (Soldotna) and lakes (Kenai Wildlife Refuge). We hiked Exit Glacier (Seward) a 2.5 mile trail (RT) and were rewarded with a brilliant turquoise blue view of the Glacier. Finn has become an amazing little hiker he did the entire thing without complaints. We got a sense of what it would be like to live in Soldotna (spent a great deal of time here) enjoyed their live music on Wednesdays, caught the Progress Day Festival and Parade. Witnessed local Alaskans dip netting experienced dirt track car racing at Twin City Raceway (dusty) and fished the Kenai River for Salmon. We had amazing donuts from the Moose is Lose bakery and great local meats from the Echo Meat shop. We enjoyed a few nights in the Kenai Wildlife Refuge both on Sikla and Lower Ohmer Lake. We saw Black bears, Moose, Sea Otters and Bald Eagles and actually witnessed the Salmon swimming and jumping upstream to spawn (super cool). We spent many nights in the Chugach National Forrest which is throughout the Peninsula. Finn made some cool friends; Brena in Soldotna and Franklin in Kenai. We played a ton of Frisbee our latest thing and sampled some local ale at the Homer Brewery. All in all we had a terrific time and would certainly recommend all to visit this part of Alaska.
